EMIC seeks to promote and protect culture among ethnic minority groups especially amongst the youth who are most likely to miss out or to be influenced against it. The project involves sharing culture and heritage amongst the ethnic minority communities in Canterbury as well as with the general population. Community members and the community organisations share their traditions, customs, beliefs, music, dance, and stories and the positive values, norms and codes of conduct.
The project will focus on cultural traditions such as stories, festivals, crafts, music, dance and traditional dress; people’s memories and experiences as well as collecting artefacts from the different communities to share and learn about as well as passing these on to the next generations.
